A breezy take on flats

In the process of catching up on my magazines and sifting through a mountain of e-mails, I’ve come across some bits of inspiration to update my wardrobe this spring. One item that has stuck out are the new take on flat espadrilles. While I credit Toms with bringing about the more masculine shapes in flats, it seems they’re swinging more toward dainty ballet flats while other designers are jumping are going for wider shapes.

These styles make me think of weekend beach trips with cutoff jeans and billowy shirts, but I think they would work just as well with business-casual sundresses or even a pair of black or navy-blue cropped pants. For me, comfort — and the ability to walk without the ouches — is key, and these playful flats look like they’ll deliver.
